Katheryn’s first months as queen were spent in the south, but in the summer of 1541, Henry decided to visit his northern subjects – in part to instil a healthy dose of fear in them, but also to project his magnificence. In this, he was ably supported by Katheryn, who travelled at his side, dripping with the jewels he had lavished on her. The progress travelled from London to York and back over the course of four months.
