Politics & Economy

Before 1485, politics was largely personal - relationship with the monarch was key, and advisers came and went, depending on the monarch’s inclination and capacity for direct rule. By 1603 Parliaments in both countries were flexing their muscles. Economically, it was a time of growth, but with intermittent deep recessions. The ugly spectre of inflation raised its head, causing dearth and widespread unemployment.
