Mary’s life was fairly typical of a woman in close proximity to the court. She lived in various locations with her parents, as Sir Henry Sidney fulfilled his roles as Lord Deputy of Ireland, and Lord President of the Council for Wales. As Countess of Pembroke, her main residence was Wilton House, in Wiltshire. Her own tastes are perhaps most clearly seen in the delightful Houghton House.
